Heritage unit event draws 4,000

I had a great time my 9 year grandson saw a once in a life te event just saying

They most certainly did wow the crowd! I sweated through the Tuesday event. It was terrific!

Foundation listed at goodsearch.com & isearchigive.com .

I has no idea what the history of the various roads were. Being present at the Spencer event was a pheonomenal history lesson, a once-in- lifetime experience and I am glad I was able to go. C. Manning (a lifetime train watcher)

Thanks to the lucky attendees who posted comments here, and to Trains Newswire, too. Can’t wait to see more coverage.

why do people keep saying this was a once in a lifetime event? u.p. did the same thing with their 6 heritage locos back in 2007. trains mag even did an article on it. (oct 2007).

As one of the volunteers at this event, I was very impressed by the caliber of those attending. I “worked” Heritage Hill both days and when it was all done, I walked across the hill picking up the trash: 2 water bottles and a soda can.
What a neat bunch of folks in all respects.

This event was truly an “an event of a lifetime” it was handled with class and dignity that only professionals could have pulled off. My thanks to everyone it was a wonderful experience I will never forget. It was worth every penny it took to get there and the photo’s will hold a special place in my collection

I think that cool the railroad is honoring it past.

I attended the July 4th event and was pleasantly surprised on how well everything ran. Despite the heat everyone was well behaved and in good spirits. Kudos to NS & NCTM for this event.

With mainline steam programs rare these days, Norfolk Southern has finally created something that will invigorate railfans and inspire them to get back to trackside. The display in Spencer, N.C. of engines in paint schemes long gone was a remarkable event and one that will be hard to ever top. Thanks to Norfolk Southern and the staff of the North Carolina Transportation Museum for a stellar event.

Can’t wait to see some pictures! This certainly deserves to be on the cover of the next issue.

While UP deserved kudos for its 2007 ‘heritage salute’, the paint schemes were a ‘stylized’ version of what was, once upon a time.
That makes Norfolk Southern the absolute winner in the “event of a lifetime” Heritage Fleet salute at NCTM.
Every unit paint job was as close to original as you could get.
It will never get any better than what NS created and delivered to America on its (Norfolk Southern’s) 30th Anniversary.
Happy Birthday to NS and thanks for giving ‘us’ a present.

With events that are significant, I tend to note the “anniversary” of those times. At work today I remembered where I was last Tuesday and was so glad to have been there. It was great to meet folks from across the country. 4000 folks there; wow to be part of something so fine and grand. I continue to be grateful for this opportunity, look forward to getting my slides back, and look forward to the Trains book about these units. Now to get pictures of them working, not posing!

you are lucky if you went there. #$%^

Phenomenal! What a privilege it must have been to attend

I was there the 4th of July. Instead of multi color fireworks , I saw very colorful engines.

We made it Monday for the reception and really enjoyed J. Allan Rider’s talk, but Tuesday’s show was well beyond our expections! Good to see our (GE) and their (Progress Rail)units in full color like locomotives of old. Many thanks go to the event organizers, J. Allan Rider for seeing the project thru, and Wick Moorman for giving us this “once-in-a-lifetime” event… these are the moments that memories are made of!
