This is the fastest BNSF Intermodal I have seen on the Internet for a while http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCrmoVWjCkc Talk about speed. This is not my video.
Weird to have one set of stacks in the middle of the train.Would love to know what was going on there! Hes hitting 70 through there and is ina hurry so he can die up at Nerska lol. This is from experience, make it from Galesburg on the Z DenChi in 3 hours. Cut the trailers off at Willow then fight all the way to Nerska tower and rot there. Ahhhh memories.
It is odd to se a set of 2 single unit stacks in the middle of that TOFC.
Route Rock, HURRY UP AND WAIT!!!
LOL Bubba my BN conductor co ordinator said with a straight face " We dont sit an wait here a the BNSF"I laughed, I have had railroad family and friends so I knew better!
Its funny those trailers are what is the hottest things on a Z. Containers? Fuggetaboutit!Sorry my New Jersey accent isnt that good ( nor is my spelling of it) but you get the idea!
HAHAH! Well it sounds good to say we don’t wait around!
Love the NJT accent!
Wrawroacx,
Those are BNSF Z Trains (nicknamed “Hurricanes”). They run across the TransCon mainline between Chicago and Los Angeles. They’re permitted 70 MPH. (I’ve heard stories of them being permitted 75 if behind schedule, but I’m not sure I believe that, since “Over Speed” is set at 74 on BNSF locomotives, and with their 83:20 gear ratio, they wouldn’t barely be able to maintain 75 MPH before an emergency application was applied with the Penalty Brakes). However, these trains are convenient for society. They may look big, fast and scary (and awesome to the railfans), but they are getting your over-night mail and UPS shipments to you fast!
EDIT - Also, there are two reasons that the Z Trains have plenty of locomotives (usually 4 or 5). It’s because, well, if one breaks down, then you need some backup. Also, locomotives lose horsepower at high speeds, so in order to maintain a great amount of horsepower, and keep the speed going, they’re going to need a few extra locomotives.
How about this one from 3:05 on:
we run are intermodel that fast over here also, but the amazing thing is that for some of those trailers they will never sede 60 + mph unless they are on the rails.
A significant number of UPS trailers on most of the trains…
