Hey! Canada guys:(and anyone else)

I keep seeing posts that if a brass C.P.R. “Selkirk” 2-10-4 ever comes out, everyone will buy one, well sunset models have some ( if there are any left) and they are $1400.00 (that’s $ 26,000.00 Canadian) so lets quit wishing and get out there and snap up a couple of these beauties eh ! and remember, the number on the locomotive in Calgary is incorrect (I forgot the story) anyone remember ?

I have never posted I would buy a Selkerk and for sure not at $26,000 CDN [:O]

$1,400 US is more like $1,602.30 at todays rate. Still too much for me [sigh]

OR, you could kitbash one from an IHC 2-10-2. http://www.trains.com/TRC/CS/forums/958491/ShowPost.aspx

Much cheaper

Keep in mind that a brass Selkirk will require 40" radii curves…

The ICH model will rin on 18"…and can handle my 28 quite easily.

CPR 2-10-4 Selkirk No. “5934”, T1c class, standing at the entrance to Heritage Park in Calgary is actually No. 5931 delivered in February 1949. It is one of the only two preserved Selkirks, the other being No. 5935 delivered March 1949, located at Exporail (Canadian Railway Museum) at St Constant, Quebec, near Montreal. Presumably Calgarians did not want to be too far behind the easterners.

Also remember that the Selkirk is a niche model, only aimed at Canadian Pacific modelers of the late steam era in Western Canada. Yes, they’ve come out in brass, and yes they can be reasonably kitbashed but don’t hold your breath for them to come out in plastic. Besides, for people like me that model eastern Canada, it’s not an issue at all. Yes they were beautiful, yes they were amazing engines, but well they’re not for everyone.

One of the things that bugs me about modeling Canada is how everyone lumps all Canadian modelers in together. Would someone talk up a UP Big Boy to a Pennsy modeler because they both model American roads? It’s an interesting conundrum, I knew a guy who modeled The Meritimes, and someone asked if that was anywhere near Vancouver, which he’d been to once.

Cheers!

The “Meritimes”? Where’s that? The other side of the country from Bridish Corumbia? [8D]

I don’t think Sooooo! I think it maybe near Timbucktoo… But then again I could be misspelling “Tim” but

I DON"T THINK SO!

Dad had a girlfriend from Toronto once who thought the “Confederation Bridge” was between Halifax and Charlottetown. When I heard that I told Dad to Drop her as he could do better than that.

$1400 , $1600 , heck might as well be $26,000 … i’m just not going to spend that on a model loco of any kind

i guess it’s lucky for me i’m not planning on modelling late steam , or even anything canadian
