Hey, Charlie....

Recognize this…

Thought I would post a pic once I installed it. Now the passengers don’t have to sweat anymore.

That looks very familiar. Good to see it put to good use. I take it you didn’t have any problems with the parts? By the way, the superintendents car is on display on the property along HWY 56. You can park you car on the shoulder and see the car. The car is owned by a gentleman named Marvin Roberts. I don’t know if you will have the ability to get up close to the car. He also owns an ATSF Topeka shops baggage car and a ATSF PSCM lounge car 1348. I think the superintendents car is numbered 405? Not to certain.

I wasn’t sure you would catch this thread.

I am definately considering heading your way to have a look at the shorty. For some reason I really like those cars. I wish I owned one.

Edit: I may have to try to look up Mr Roberts. I sure would like to see the interior.

Chris,

What paint did you use on the Regal car? Looks great.

I found it no problem. The 400 series business cars are a rather unique car. No quite sure of the reason for the length of the car.

Thanks!! It is Floquil “Bright Silver”. I sealed everything with Future. There is an under coat of the Floquil zinc chromate primer since this car was built using brass car sides. The underbody is a “custom mix”.

I am thinking the length has something to do with how they were used. I heard they were coupled to the end of freight trains, plus I don’t think a division super would have required a full length car.

I just hope 2008 will finally be the year that The Coach Yard releases their model. I reserved one two years ago.

Car 404 (the one I have done the restoration work on) was from the Eastern Division and “lived” in Emporia. How close is that to you?

Emporia is 54 miles south on I-335. Topeka was actually the Division Headquaters. Emporia was the Headquarters of the Emporia Sub and Topeka was the Headquarters for the Topeka and Atchison subs and the Atchison sub is no longer-abandoned in the early 90’s. Business car 54 was assigned to Topeka and was used by Harry Briscoe superintendent of the Easter Region which was comprised of the Atchison, Emporia, Marceline and Topeka subs and Kansas City. The Coach Yard is stating that the Business fleet is scheduled for early 2008, as if that will happen. I’m planning on getting car 61 Fred Harvey.
