You need a yahoo account.

Just follow the rules on the front page of the group site.

This group was started by Eric Miller.

Well, it had to happen someday…

Ummm, Yea I kinda already did that last year…and its also called rrpicturearchives.net

rrpicturearchives.net has its drawbacks too, though I’m sure there aren’t anywhere near as many people complaining about them!!! My biggest complaint is the way they automatically resize the browser window, they ought to eliminate that immediately. But they are still a good home for lots of pictures that don’t/won’t get accepted at rp.net

Say, coborn, where did you get those smileys from? I could use a few like that for my forum…

I know about rrpicturearchives.net. I have some 100 photos on their, I even added it on the link page of the group, please join.

And what happens when people say your
images are “REALLY as bad as RP says?”

I like rrpicturearchives too, I’ve got over 3,000 photos there. It’s a great place to upload roster photos, photos of railway buildings, or those blasted cloudy shots that RP.net hates.

There’s been a group like this already…

And honestly, why do you care?

I personaly had Two Photo’s rejected too from Railpictures.net. I least I now understand why. Bad Cropping! Oh well, better luck next time.

The purpose of my group is to foster POSITIVE discussion about railroad photography. Rather than just give someone a summary rejection with a curt, three word reason why, (such as “bad angle” or my favorite, “bad motive”) we wi***o discuss amongst ourselves perhaps why (and if) a photo is worthy of RP.net’s rejection, and how it might be improved. Ideally, we’ll discuss just plain-and-simple ways to make a photo better, regardless of whether it would make RP.net accept it or not. These RP.net guys have appointed themselves judge, jury, and executioner about what is “good” in railroad photography. And where are their qualifications? With the exception of Chris Starnes’ cover shot on Railfan & Railroad, I’ve never heard of these screeners, nor seen any of their work in print. To me, that’s the REAL mark of acceptance…having your work in a printed magazine.

It’s just funny to me that these 4 or 5 RP.net screeners are supposed to be the authority on what railroad photography really is, yet they don’t seem to have any credentials to back this up. And it’s also funny that their own photographs are posted on the site disproportionate to anyone else’s. True, they say that the screeners can’t post their own photos. Think about that, though…They just “keep it in the family,” so to speak.

Eric, I think you’re taking this too seriously.

This is only a hobby and we all have more
important things to worry about.

I have never seen any administrator or screener
at Railpictures state that the site is the
arbiter of what is good rail photography.

Railpictures has certain standards, from
which it sometimes deviates, and has its share
of great, good and mediocre images.

By the way, I don’t know a single contributor
who hasn’t had a photo rejected from Railpictures.
Usually, but not always, the rejection is merited.
If it isn’t, establish your own website, or get
a Pbase account and place your photos there.

If you’re taking photos just hoping to get them
on Railpictures, your motivation and vanity is
misplaced. You should be taking photos
for your own benefit and enjoyment.

As an RP.net supporter, let me come out of the wordwork and contrast some of what Eric’s said.

I know Robert Palmer and Chris Kilroy have had thier photos published, Kilroy probably more in the aviation world than in the railroad world, but published nonetheless. I’m not sure if J.E. Landrum’s had anything published, but those are your 4 screeners.

But how is the REAL mark of acceptance being published in a printed magazine? What if somebody never submits their photos to a magazine for publication? Does that dimini***heir ability as a photographer or lessen their credentials in any way? Your rationale for establishing someone else’s credentials is pretty thin if you actually believe this.

This statement just proves you have no idea what you’re talking about. Let the math prove my point. Here are the screener’s and the number of photos they have in the database:

Chris Starnes: 1120
Chris Kilroy: 101
Robert Palmer: 333
J.E. Landrum: 642

That’s 2,196 photos spread out among the 4 screeners. That’s 2,196 photos in a database of more than 118,000. Let me say that again, that’s two thousand ninety six in a data
