Just been HOT and DRY here at Deadwood acres on The North Bluff above Marseilles Il. Grass is burning up,dust everywhere.
Had a great holiday weekend and hope you all did as well. Saw my son and his wife, they came over Sunday on the 1975 Triumph T160 Trident I built for him around 23 years ago or so. It is looking and running Great. Daughter and her’s came over on Monday and spent the day. We al had fun and the dogs had a fun time as well.
No train news but with weather good can’t wast time down there.
So it seems I have a pinched nerve in my back, some meds and PT and I’ll see him in 6 weeks. The orthopedic doc was a volunteer firefighter/EMS some years ago and we have a mutual friend. We swapped some stories, great guy. Some very interesting stories…
Ran over to wash Jenni’s Charger as she wanted to head to the local cruise night. Ran back home to solve the power steering leak (yup, again) in the road runner. Washed and did a quick vacuum on it 'cuz the Mrs. requested my presence at said cruise. Met up with a few of our friends and jetted back home as we had a couple that were in town, wanted to see us (it was already 8:30). A quick stop for Jenni to change and Mickey D dinner and went to where they were. Welp, they had already left, so back home we went.
Turned the A/C on, tried to settle down with NY Electric Trains live sale, I was very uncomfortable. Tried to sleep - um, no. Took a Benadryl at 0300 and slept through my alarms, so I was a wee bit late to work this AM. Zyrtec later (it’s my last one!!!).
Aloha. TGIF. This week has been a scorcher and the sun and high temps continued. Boy, we sure went right to summer - today is supposed to reach 92. This brings thunderstorms but everything missed us. I have a quiet day today. i have a big report to write. Today is Kelly’s last day of her school year so she is psyched. We’re pretty tired as the youngest went to O’Hare to pick up his girlfriend who is home from college and her flight was hours delayed and they got back at 3 am (instead of 10 pm). Earlier, we found a local watering hole with a happy hour that we hit early before the crowds. Not much planned for the weekend but Kelly informed me we have a graduation party to go to for someone I do not know.
RT, great video.
Rich, I hope your back is feeling better.
Quick run to LIDL this a.m. Wal-Mart to pick-up Groceries this afternoon. I do not go in unless I need to. I don’t feel comfortable doing so, even with Donna with me.
Well we will see what today brings, I plan to put the green passenger cars up on the shelf, the engine will follow once I have the wheels repaired. So top shelf a 402 and the Orange passenger cars ( wrong engine for the set but will do for now. ) next shelf down will be the 408 and the green passenger cars, next shelf down will be set # 403 (somewhere between 1925 and 1927 ) 402, and 6 wheel trucks 418, 419, & 490. the bottom shelf will be set # 403 ( 1923/24 era) 402, and 4 wheel trucks 418, 419, & 480.
I still have a set of 418, 419, & 490 that I’m working on cleaning up and then waxing, also have a 402 that I need to do a little cleaning and wax to also. What I will do with this set I’m not sure.
It sounds like much of the midwest is baking these last few days. Now is when Duluth earns its moniker of “the air conditioned city.” Breezes off of Lake Superior have kept it comfortably in the 70s daytime and 50s at night. Just a few miles away “over the hill” the temps have reached the mid to upper 80’s.
We made a trip to Maine to meet our newest grandchild - Eden Elizabeth. I know I’m prejudiced but she is pretty cute. We had some great seafood while we were there and fortunately the weather was good for the week that we were there.
Dead June bugs? Man, that’s like when I was driving across Florida last month from the east to the west coast. By the time I got to Fort Myers the whole front of the Soul was splattered with dead bugs! Yuck! First stop in Fort Myers was a car wash!
Wow! Finally a Beautiful Day, have had nothing but “May Gray” for the past 3 weeks, then yesterday began “June Glooom”. But somehow the sun came out this afternoon, and provided blue skies!!! YEAH!!
Today, been OK, Termite work crew was here and spent the day replacing “facia” boards. Didn’t quite get finished will have to come back next week. As well as the “treatment crew”, have a couple areas inside, and they will be spraying exposed areas in the attic and garage.
The appliance repair man was out and replaced the drain hose on the washer, Kay wasn’t crazy about me taking off the metal enclosure on 3 sides. So I didn’t argue just called the guy.
Then realized I had time to go to the Carmax dealer to see about getting an appointment for the Explorer, (been calling, leaving msgs for the past week, no reply. I was there at 3:45 this pm, got appt for 4:30 pm. Went home checked things out with the Termite guys, Washer guy was just leaving, job completed. Got the Explorer back to Carmax, and need to order new camera, will hear Monday when it will be available. Also will find out when termite crews are returning. Fun Day!
[Y][8D] Mornin’ guys and gals. Sunny & 63 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Recover Day, after week long family vacation to DollyWood. We rented an awesome cabin overlooking Pigeon Forge, and I loved the Smoky Mountain sunrises. There was too much to see and do, but my clan certainly tried… Trainwise, we all got to ride behind #192 at the theme park.
Best dining experience? Paula Deen’s, hands down.[dinner]
Made tacos last night for dinner - cleaned and degreased the driveway - 3rd attempt to solve the power steering leak is holding so far. I have the battery on slow charge with new battery charger I bought, hopefully it’ll be 100% so we can take it to Delaware tomorrow for our first anniversary. We’ll be heading to Yorklyn, DE to the Marshal Steam Museum and Mansion. auburnheights.org/
Made it an early night, watched an amateur on line train seller - it was slow and painful to watch. I picked up a Western and Atlantic passenger car with box for $20 to go with the MTH Wanderer engine I have.
Took meds for my back - not doing that again, I have what feels like a hangover without the fun. I’ll just do the steroids and PT. I can’t take the side effects of that other stuff.
Mornin’ guys and gals. Misting and 60 along the Patterson Creek cutoff. Not wet enough for the posies, so I still had to water them. By the way FifeMax acted last night, and the bird feeder disturbed, me thinks we had a bear visit. Will volunteer at the caboose this AM, then maybe head up the mountain to fish, and visit with my nephew. Will DVR race to watch later.
anjdevil - Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg more so, are right up your alley. You can spend as much, or as little, as you choose. Kelly was amazed at how much cash we returned with. DollyWood was gorgeous, and the merch inside was reasonable. You can’t expect to do the water park + main park in the same day.
That makes me think of the Durango & Silverton RR out in Colorado, you need two days, or at least a day-and-a-half to get the most out of it. One day for the train ride, one half-day at least for the museum. Both are well worth it but if you take the train ride you’ll miss the museum, if you do the museum you’ll miss the train ride. And if you’re ever in Colorado make the time to see the D&S, you’ll love it!
Had a couple of DR appointments at the V.A. yesterday so by time got home I was tuckered out. It’s about 2 hours each way because of construction, other wise around an hour and a half.
70+ miles each way and the truck said I got 19.3 miles per gallon on the trip, so to me a full size pick-up with 4 wheel drive, that is pretty good milage.
Hope you all have a good day, yak at you all later
Mornin’ guys and gals. Cool and very dry in the Potomac Highlands. We spent yesterday at prego Princess’s home. Wifey babysitting, and sweeping out garage, FifePops painting trim and doors in new nursery. I need to go back there today and paint the closet that I patched. Daddy-daughter dinner tonight.
