Hey, what does "locked" mean on posts?

I have never noticed that before, but I see a locked icon on that thread about rants.

Locked means the thread is finished and we move on.

David B

In this particular case it means that one of the moderators got tired of people ranting about ranting!

Yup, time to move on. It means that Kalmbach (or a rep like a moderator) feels the topic does not fit in with the idea Kalmbach has for the forum. As for the rant one, it was getting into freedom of speech issues and had strayed from model railway topics. I was expecting it to get locked or even deleted.

By just locking it, it can still be read but no longer posted to, so they must feel there is some value in having there.

Lets see how does a topic get locked? based on past experiences here…

Someone states something they shouldnt have

Someone posts an image they shouldnt have

Someone calls someone something they shouldnt have

someone posts a topic so far out in left field it gets locked

someone posts a topic so offensive it gets locked

someone posts a topic about scale and/or gauge superiority and it gets whacked

someone posts a question about 4x8 layouts vs round-the-rooms and it spins out of control

someone posts a DCC vs Analog topic that ends up nuked

someone posts a politics or religious topic

or Al pays us a visit [B)]

Here I thought it was just Selector’s way of making sure he got the last word…[;)]

Yup. And the question has been answered.
