HI-Cube Boxcar and other rolling stock

I am trying to decide on a time frame with the rolling stock that I have. I have a GP-35 locomotive, steel and wood boxcars, other rolling stock and one hi-cube boxcar (BN). I want to know when the hi-cube boxcars were first used on the prototype and if my rolling stock would “clash” as far as timewise usage goes. Anyone have any suggestions/advice/links/pictures?

86’ high cubes have been around since the early 60s as I recall. I would be more concerned about those wood box cars. I thnk they were outlawed from interchange service at some point.

BN did not exist until 1970.

BN(1970) had wood 40’ boxcars(even ex-GN ‘plywood’ sheathed ones). That Hi-Cube car was build in the early to mid-60’s for the most part. As long as the wood sheathed cars are not truss rod under frame or have arch bar trucks, they should be good for interchange service. I eve remember seeing outside sheathed Ma & Pa cars(and WA&G 'Sole Leather Line) in the early 70’s.

Well for starters the gp35 was built mid sixties, '64 maybe, and BN came about 1970, so your approximate time frame would be the 70’s mh.

The fact that wood boxcars were still in use as late as then is quite amazing to me, actually.
