Hiawatha Class A Atlantic

I am looking to purchase an Overland Milwaukee Road Hiawatha Class A Atlantic locomotive which they built a number of years ago in HO. Does anyone know of availability?

You will have to search the inventory of many brass locomotive dealers. I would start with Caboose Hobbies in Denver.

Thank you. I actually live near Denver and check Caboose regularly. This loco is rare.

Well’ looking at the Brown Book 3rd edition there were only two runs of 100 pieces each.

The1st run was the modernized version the 2nd the original version.

The 1987 list price was $393 There was no current estimated prices listed

I would therefor say either version will probably be extremely hard to find, and will most likely be pricey But ! you just never know, stranger things have happened than having one fall into your hands.

Rivarossi put out a Hudson version several years back

The Rivarossi Hiawatha engine was no where close to an F-7 Baltic. It was basically an almost standard Hudson with a paint job meant to simulate the Milwaukee engine. And they go for upwards of $500.

Where are they going for $500 ?

I think you’ll just need to keep checking the major brass sites and eBay. Ones to look at are:

brasstrains.com

caboosehobbies.com

uncledavesbrass.com

brasslocomotive.com

ballsofbrass.com

thecaboose.com

northernscale.com

There are others too that you can find via Google or by looking for ads in the model railroading magazines.

There is hope. I actually wanted the Overland 4-6-4 Hiawatha. It took over a year of looking for it but I did recently find and buy it. For rare brass locomotives you’ll have to be prepared to buy on sight without much thinking because if you don’t someone else will. Happy hunting.

You might be thinking of two different things. [:)]

Rivarossi made a very nice looking Milwaukee streamlined Hudson back in the eighties/nineties. (Unfortunately, like their Milwaukee passenger cars, it used brown where it should have been maroon, but otherwise it was nice.) This is the best pic I could find of one:

They also offered a semi-streamlined Pacific, basically a fairly standard Pacific in Hiawatha-style paint and lettering like engines used on Milwaukee’s “Chippewa” trains which IIRC went from Chicago to northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. IHC now has something similar in their line:
