Hiding joined sections of layout: answers please

In modular or module construction, or in hinged layout fold-down section, or in access hole popups, there is a crack in the layout where it folds down or pulls apart.

When the layout is connected, is there an obvious seam or crack on your layout? How do you conceal, camouflage, or otherwise hide this crack?

I believe I read once that a modeler built a gully where the crack is to hide it.

I’m thinking that you could also cut your modules in a curved, rather than a straight fashion so it is less apparent.

Another solution could be an overhang of rocks or earth material.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I need some answers because I’m planning some hinged sections on my next layout!

I you read the noveber MR Iain Rice explains how he uses buildings and other removable scenic elements to hide the cracks. The idea is to make the cracks less noticable by making them not straight and at scenic boundaries.

This is more practical for benchwork construction than making irregular modules.

I have seen a pair of modules joined with a combination of a low bridge and road along the joint. The road/bridge section was removable, and was placed in one piece over the joint once the modules were together. Since your eye will expect to see a relatively sharp transition at the endge of the road, it worked pretty well.
