High Explosives

I have a lionel explosive box car,and from time to time,I set it out on a siding just to make sure that the money I keep poring into our defence fund is reaping it’s rewards. In the real world, however, are high explosives transported by rail to munitions facilities & proving grounds??? thanks Easter

Easter,

YES! There’s plants in Crane, Indiana, Norfolk and some other areas that have ammo and ships it by rail to Blount Island Florida.

I visited the facility (in my line of work) and wrote an article about it. They even designed a reversing loop on the island because in the past, backing ammo trains out of there caused a shutdown of all traffic.

Blount Is, BTW, is where Naval ships (contracted ships) take the ammo, vehicles, etc to Iraq and other places for Soldiers and Marines.

Here’s my article. Photos are somewhere in a shoe box.

Cool article David, you are most articulate. [:)]

Easter I like the explosive car, but my favorite is the las vegas money car or the gold car. Both have windows to see the load. Now that would be a sight in the real world.

Tim

David,what a find! thank you,thank you!!!

Hey Tim! Don’t have enough security on my road to protect a gold car.Easter
