There was a transformator transport via rail to the station from our village and then, yesterday night 10 pm, to the electricity substation. Four hours for the street!

Did they add the switch and spur just for this move? The car is sitting on the spur and the switch is gone.

By the looks of the track joints I would suspect they unbolted the joints and swung the track into position to line up with the spurr and then restored it to it’s regular configuration after they were done. They did this up on Horseshoe curve in Altoona when they swapped the K4 for the GP9 that is there now.

Please post a pic with the transformer on the schnabel cars. I used to build transformers. Less than 1,000,000 isn’t that big for a shell core transformer, but it is still a very interesting load. Thanks for the pics.

I’ve just added the pictures from today, this time the old transformator on the rails. HIgh Wide Heavy.

I had the chance to see one of those up close awhile ago, it was sitting in Cobourg, Ontario. It was heading up north. This is a pic of it sitting in ONR territory taken by Mike Robin.

I’ve added to my blog a few pictures more. This 220 Megawatt transformator was exchange for a transformator from 1987. 230 ton transformator made up to 320 ton for the street.

I’ve added more pictures and links to other Schnabel cars. Now, the team track is tidy.
