Highnose GE's

Does Norfolk Southern have any of their highnose GE U-boats left?

I think their all gone. None listed on roster but, they may still have some on dead lines somewhere.

I believe they have all been sold or scrapped, but I did see three of them working for new owner Georgia Central in Savannah this past Monday when I was in town for my NS physical exam.

nope all gone, They dissapeard near the ‘‘Catfish’’ Era then some went to leasers, shortlines (like Martin Marrieta), then some might be on deadlines or in storage for future use.

Darn, those were some amazing looking locomotives. [:(]

My preference was always the Southern SD45s, charging down the tracks flared radiators first! WHOOF, that was an impressive sight! (Though I’ll admit, I only saw it in pictures.[V])

Once you get beyond N&W and SR, a high-nose GE is a very rare bird indeed. The only ones that come to to mind are the very first U25B’s and the demos that went to Frisco.

Some of the ex-SR B23-7’s have turned up on short lines.

Don’t despair, CT, they still are…you just need to take a trip down to the coast to Savannah. Like I said earlier, just this past Monday I saw three or 'em running light near Central Junction; didn’t really notice if they were “U”'s or "B"s, but they were definately high hoods, they were definately GE’s, and they were definately ex-Sou/NS.[:D]

Actually they’re U23’s…found a site with some pics:
