Hight for sanding towers.

I’m building a sanding tower for my Locomotive servicing facility. The tank is 5 inches off the ground and, The sanding tower is 8 inches from the very bottom to the top of the tank. Is this to tall? When I was building it it seemed a little too tall. Any sugestions?

Depending on the specific design of the sanding tower, in HO, that may be on the short side. Eight inches is about 58 feet in HO.

Using a photo of a similar prototype, compare the sand tower with a locomotive, and do the same with your model.

For example:

I checked it and it still seems too tall. It’s about 2 and a half inches from the top of the locomotive to the plat-form where the tank sits on. Mabe it’s just my eyes. I think it would look better if I cut off 1 and a half inches.

An HO Diesel sanding tower made by Heljan is listed in the Walthers catalog as being 6.5 inches tall. They have several other brands, but don’t give their dimensions. The Walthers catalog number of the one by Heljan is 322-114, and if you go to Walthers web site and type in that number you can see a picture of it.
