I’m putting my kit together and I’m at step 10. It says “bend the toeboard up and glue it to the frontpiece.” OK, but where is the part that supports the toeboard? Pics show a line angled to the angle of the bent part of the toeboard down to the bottom of the front. The sheet says nothing about this nor do I see any part for this support.
Hmm. [%-)] I just looked at one that’s been built and on the layout - the braces are in place. However, on an as-yet-unopened kit, there are no braces to be seen, and no empty spots on the sprues, either. It’s been a while since I built mine, but the braces appear to be about .010"x020" strip styrene, readily available from Evergreen. You could also use .012" or .015" wire.
For future info–and to make your city boy roots less obvious–that
is called a “blaze.” Every blaze is singularly unique to a particular horse and coupled with a few other things it is the way a cowhand distinguishes a hoss in his string from a very similiar hoss belonging to someone else.
Thanks for the kind words, Zim. The horses, I believe, were airbrushed for the base colour and for the darker shading on the lower legs. I then used a brush for the harnesses, manes and tails, and the facial features. I have several other wagons, including a couple yet to be built - when they’re all assembled, I’ll add reins and traces, etc.
