What’s the best way from York, PA to Macungie, PA this Friday April 24th - route 30 to 222, or 83N to 78E, or some other way? I’ve heard in the past that construction on 30 made it a mess. Maybe that’s over? But now too that maybe there’s similar work on 222? Thank you.
Good luck on no road construction up that way . And remember the amish people are very nearby if any of you are taking a mini vacation there for the show . Well worth checking out the area scenes .
83N to 78E would be faster due to highway speeds.
30E to 222N would be more scenic, but slower due to traffic lights and traffic. 30 around Lancaster is FINALLY finished (although on the East side of town you still have the insanely stupid merge to deal with at the light). I’m not aware of any construction on any of these routes.
I know they were working on 222 around Reading, not sure if that is complete or not.
IMHO the 83N to 78E route would be the ‘safer’ routes, just keep in mind depending on when you leave you could hit rush-hour in Harrisburgh (83 and 81 are a MESS that time of day).
Thanks lionroar88. I’m going to take 83-78.
I used to live in Reading PA and taking highway 30 other than for a business related purpose is very bad, highway 30 is very curvy and takes way tooo long to go from Pittsburg over to Harrisburg on. Use the PA turnpike or I-78. Route 83 is very scenic and has a few hills to go over but well worth the drive.
Seems like route 222(the triple duece) is always under construction somewhere near Reading or Wyomissing areas. If you take route 222 east to Reading from York or Lancaster area watch out for a major lane reduction near Adamstown, goes from four lane divided highway(with a median) to three lane roadway, one lane north and south with a passing lane in the center going into Reading area. At least it was that way about four years ago when I was up there last.
