Historic Gettysburg station sold

They cannot donate it to the NPS until Congress takes action to allow it, which just might precipitate another showdown resulting in a shutdown. There could be a sign posted similar to the one on the locked gate at the national cemetery in Dover, TN: “Sorry, but the cemetery is closed due to the government shutdown.”

The Americian Freedom Train made a stop there in September of 1976 for a short ceremony on its way to Hagerstown ,MD enroute from Balitmore ,MD

A railway line ought to be restored between Gettysburg and Hanover Junction. Steam Into History’s Northern Central Railway could expand operations there.

Many thousands of the wounded soldiers were transported out of Gettysburg in the days, weeks and months after the battle from the temporary hospital that was constructed along the present-day Camp Siding about a mile or more east of town. Whether 15,000 of them boarded trains at the station, I would have to question that. The station is rather small for that number of peoplr. Does anyone else know more about this and care to comment?
