I wonder if MR ever thought about having a special issue dedicated to historic model railroads. They could include articles of the past and present and maybe include the influence each owner and railraod had on the hobby and the people surrounding it.
It’s a good thought. I am sure MR has a good library of photos to chose from. They could include a track plan and some insight into operations and equipment.
I would like to see John Armstrong and John Allen. Who would you like to see included?
Does anyone know where I can down load some good pics of the White Pass & Yukon Route cica. 1900-I’m starting to model that line with the mining camps ect. I have plenty of info on the line it’s self (since it is mostly scenery) but am having trouble with the “towns” (I know that White Pass was only a glorified mining camp at the time) so if any one has any info I would be eternally greatful(just don’t ask for my first born, I wouldn’t be “That Greatful”)
First of all, you’ll get a lot better response if you post this in it’s own thread, instead of “hijacking” this one. It hurts your chances and diverts attention from the original thread. There are plenty of sites out there and people will crawl all over themselves to help you.
Some have already been featured in books such as John Allen’s Gorre and Daphetid and Allen McClelland’s Virginian & Ohio. One name from way back was Frank Ellison’s layout which I believe was called the Delta Lines. I have read about it many times but never have seen pictures. I would like to see how the top modeler’s largely scratch built layouts from the early days of the hobby compare to the kit built and RTR world of today.
See back issues of MR from the 50’s and July 1976 for Frank Ellison.
I would like such a book provided each layout was more than just a plan and a couple of pictures. The book on the G&D is good partly because it provides a lot of information and pictures.
Chip and George, thanks for the help and I’m sorry if it looked like I was trying to “highjack” the thread, I didn’t mean to but I hadn’t thought to ask until I saw this thread
