Historic Photos

Just wanted to let my fellow MRR’s about www.shorpy.com a wonderful site full of historic photos of all types. There’s a special search catagory for railroads, which yeild up some truly awsome shots. Some of you may already know this site, but for the rest, check it out!

Have had it for awhile. Love it. Great Civil war and awesome old gas station and garages.

Pete

That’s a great site, I’ve spent hours on it.

Here’s a sampling for all you pre-WW1 modelers…

I agree - it is a really great site. Some of the train yard pictures boggle the mind! Check this out:

For those of us who are concerned with grades, have a look at the ramp on the far right of the picture. There is your prototype for steep and rough track!

Dave

holy smokes Dave…I work in 1:24 scale, how much room do you think I’d need to model that yard?? (!)

I love these. Very interesting.

EEEEEK!!! Where would one put that?!?!?

St. Francis: I counted 29 tracks across the whole picture, and the signal system in the foreground is labelled #8 (of how many I haven’t got a clue). I think reach in distances might be a problem!

Wow, what an amazing resource. Thanks for posting this. If anyone knows of other similar type sites for depositories of old photos, please post.
