Historic Union Pacific Depot, Park City, Utah

I need the help of anyone knowing the original trim colors of the UP Station in Park City, UT in 1886. I am building a model of the station. The newspapers in 1886 say that the station was painted a “bright yellow”. It does not say anything about the trim color. Anyone having any sources or links to anyone knowing this information I would like to make contact with them. Be happy to share early historical photographs and photos of the model build.

Thank you, Ramesh Bishop, ModelCrafters

Union Pacific Modeler, vol. 2, had a chronology of standard UP depot colors. According to that publication, the standard paints until 1887 were a dark (box car) red for the body of the building and a light green/tan for the trim. From 1887 until 1909, the standard was light green for the body and dark green for the trim. From 1909 to 1940, the standard was a bright yellow (comparable to TTX yellow) for the body, rusty red for the trim, and black for the windows.

If the Park City station was bright yellow in 1886, it was unfortunately not painted in the standard colors of the time.

Garyla,

Wanted to send you a notice that I have finished building the Park City Depot • Union Pacific Railroad. I appreciate your information and decided to use the “yellow” paint scheme mentioned in the period newspapers in 1886. I would like to share with you and anyone else that is interested my “Work Bench Photos”. I just don’t know how to do it here.

The model replica was commissioned by a private collector. It is 1/48 Scale/“O” Scale and the footprint is 24" wide x 48" deep. It is entirely scratch built using laser cut birch, basswood, balsa and card stock.

Thank you for your help.

Best Regards,

Ramesh Bishop
