Historical society membership

Do you belong to a railroad historical society? Vote then share your comments below.

Polls on Trains.com are not scientific and reflect only the opinions of the users who have chosen to participate. The results cannot be assumed to represent the opinions of Internet users in general, the readers of our magazines, nor the public as a whole. Bottom line, our polls are meant for fun and to stimulated conversation amongst our forum users.

It would be more meaningful if the topic “historical society” were expanded. Many of us are members of multiple historical societies and railroad museums. Perhaps you could add a qualifier, such as 1-2, 3-5, etc. or some such incremental delineation? I believe we all would find the results more interesting.

I am interested in joining up with Rock Island and Fort Worth & Denver Fans. Buzz

Yes, AHRS - LV/RDG/CNJ/EL…

I used to be a member of the GM&O Historical Society, but let it lapse when I dropped out of the hobby in the early 1980s for a time. I keep meaning to sign up again, but never quite get around to it. They have always had a great magazine.

Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad…no comment, really, just wanted to get that name out there.

I might as well put in two cents worth for the Nickel Plate Road! I belong to the NKPHTS society (Nickel Plate Historical and Technical Society). I have been a member since the 80’s!

belong to the soo line historical soc great magazine

I work in the Pacific Railroad Museum, a part of the Pacific Railroad Society. I also belong to the Orange Empire Railroad Museum and serve as Committee Chair for Descanso, the PRS 1909 Funeral Car. There are several more good hardworking groups in the LA CA area but I only have limited time. Lindsay

I belong to the Denver & Rio Grande Western Modeling and Historical Society. The society really gets into the nuts and bolts of things. Vast amounts of knowledge are locked away in the minds of the members. Tapping into that is like a gold mine.

Yes, I belong to the NRHS, Erie-Lackawanna Railroad Historical Society and the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society.

I belong to the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society. Ours is more than just a club, we operate Lake Shore Railway Museum in North East (that’s a town, not a direction), Pennsylvania. We are next to CSX and NS mainlines that run from Buffalo to Chicago.

It would be interesting to note which particular railroad historical societies tend to attract the most interest. My impression has been that it’s the smaller railroads (or even the long-gone but never-to-be-forgotten ones like the Ontario & Western) that draw the strongest interest from members, perhaps because they’re small enough really to get to know in detail. Not to disparage the Union Pacifics or New York Centrals, but how can one truly comprehend such sprawling entities. The Ann Arbor, on the other hand, can serve as a rivet-counter’s delight!

I belong to the National Railroad Museum at Green Bay WI.

I WILL E ATTENDING THE ERIE LACKAWANNA HISTORICAL SOCIETY CONVENTION TODAY.PROBABLY WILL JOIN.

I belong to the NYSWT&HS Since I moved to Ga.after retirement it is the best way to keep up with the goings on up there.

I belonged to NRHS for many years thru the Miami, FL chapter. When I moved to North Carolina I lost contact with them and they finally did not send me a renewal notice. I might rejoin but due to illness and physical condition I would not longer be able to go to the annual conference.

I belong to the Chessie H S/PRRT&HS/NRHS

I’m a fan of the long defunct “Ocklawaha Valley Railroad” in Florida, (check my web site at: http://www.webspawner.com/users/ovrailroad/index.html ) I doubt there are enough fans to start an OV society
but I wonder if there is any interest in starting a FLORIDA SHORTLINE HISTORICAL SOCIETY? Check out my site
and send me an E:MAIL of your ideas or interest.
