In a company of creative individuals as yours, surely “Lurch” isn’t
the only such story you have had. Good job to all.

Jim.
That give’s a new meaning to the term “elevated railroad”.
sorry, had to say it and always enjoy your appearance’s.

Great story Jim, I would like to see more stories from the inside. I have many past issues of the Model Railroader Magazine all the way back into the 1940’s. Might be an idea to do some background stories about the articles that graced the pages of MR over the years,

ps

BTW more of the Ohio Southern would be nice

That was very entertaining. It sounds like lurch was an elevator with lots of character. I can’t believe there was a fan trip for the elvator! It seems that the whole Kalmbach staff had fun that day. I can’t wait to see more episodes of History Acccording to Jim Hediger.

Wonderful! Mr. Hediger really manages to convey the comical feeling of the second notice and it’s off-spring. 101 Elevator Layouts!

Great story,
Gives you quite a lift…ha ha !!

Keep the stories coming

I worked at a place that had an elevator with 3 stops G,2,3. Do to building changes etc. the 2nd stop/Floor was removed but you could still push the 2nd stop button and the elevator would open up to a small white L shaped 8x8 room that used to be a hallway. You would get some real odd reactions from people going to what every one called the 2nd floor (3 Button) in the warehouse when it was really the old 3rd floor. The real 2nd floor was removed years ago to make more room in the lower half of the warehouse. Most people would get off on what was the old 2nd floor and make the turn off the elevator and find no place to go. People would come back and tell us there is no office on the 2nd floor. Even when you could stand on the main floor of the warehouse and show them elevator doors open and close on the office deck (Old 3rd floor). Gave them that TwilightZone feel.

The best part was seening some one get in, You know the person got off on what used to be the old 2nd floor and did not get back on and the doors open up on the 3rd floor and no one gets out. It would give new people or visitors some to think about when you tell them your next.

Still have a few of these in our town ,fun to ride and to mess with the unsuspecting passengers.

Anyone who has worked anywhere for some time has their fun “war stories” about their company. Jim’s are always very entertaining. Keep it up.

A very nice interview, well done and worth the time to watch. David and Jim provided a good story about the internal culture that was promoted within the company. Thanks for sharing this video.

We had our “Lurch” at 107 N. Market St., Jacksonville, Fl. Yours had a bigger window other wise, from what can be seen, they looked the same. This, at the time, was headquarters for the Fire/Rescue Department. At one time the building had been part of the Juvenile Correctons Department as well as several other city offices before JFRD was there. We were the last residents and users of our “Lurch”.
Thanks for the “tour”.

Sounds like it was a lot of fun. Was any of the art work saved. I would like to see the proposed interior

Jim, you are are truly a great story teller and I must say that that was a very funny story. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the laughs! That was absolutely comical. Are the dummy covers still available from Lurch’s last run? I think that would be a great online extra for people to see!

Does the old Kalmbach building still stand today?

Very intersting! I can relate to “lurch” as I remember at one or more elevators in my life that did that! I always hoped that the elevator would just work properly until I got off. I didn’t want to get stuck on one!

Great story! I really enjoyed Jim’s yarn.

Hey Jim,
I’ve been enjoying your show these past weeks. Hopefully you won’t feel the need to take a vacation every other week like some of the other pampered, high maintenance stars :D! Cody who??? You all are great, keep up the good work. I look foward to it every
Thursday evening!
