History According to Hediger: Model Railroader’s 40th anniversary boxcars

Great story! Maybe you can find a set of the old decals and build your own, David! Enjoy hearing stories like this.

I had a good lafe and I want an 80 th car.

great story enjoyed it a lot i have that magazine

Great story, Jim. I was 7 in 1974 and also remember seeing those cars advertised. I bet if someone out there has 2 N Scale versions, David would be interested. Every man has his price and David still may have those quarters at the ready for payment.

These are great stories! Jim does a fine job of relating the stories. Kepp them coming, please!

Hello all,

I figured I better weigh in on this before I’m overwhelmed with boxcar offers:

Shortly after filming this video, former managing editor, Jim Kelly, gave me a spare car from his collection. Thank you to everyone who has written me with car offers and leads, but after a 40-year wait, I’m finally all set!

Best wishes,

David Popp

Are you planing to do another set of cars for the 80th and will you offer them for sale to the readers.

I sorta missed out on the initial offer in HO, but Herald King came to the rescue with a set of decals for the HO car. Soooo, I have one of my own courtesy of HK.

Jim, ALWAYS entertaining and informative! Your videos are terrific! Great guest appearance by David telling his story too.

What happened to this series? It was always great to hear Jim’s stories. Hope we get some new ones soon!!

When will we have more of more of Jim’s amazing recollections. While every other video gives mostly modern info Jim gives us treasures from the past that we may never hear elsewhere. His articles in print are equally a true treasure house of information from a bygone era. I sincerely hope health issues have not limited Mr. Hedigers classic contributions to this younger generation.
Sincerely,
Mark

When will there be more of these awesome videos? Hope they are done for good. Sure love the stories and insight shared!

I have to ask…David did you ever get your 40th anniversary car?

Jim and David, I loved both your stories. it reminded me of my first train set I received when I was about 9 yrs old. It was from Walgreens, a SF red and silver train with 3 cars with track. Well, I thought is was the best christmas present ever. When I opened it and put it together it didn’t work. So, my dad and I went back to the store and exchanged it for a new one. Got it home and again it didn’t work. Back to the store and they didn’t have any more trains. So dad exchange it for a plastic bowling ball set. Never got my train until my son was born and on his first Christmas, he had a train that worked under the tree. Now he has a son and the tradition carries on. Thanks MRR for many years of desire, hope and Fun!
