I loved this story! Just taking a train or plane trip is an adventure in itself, but Jim packed in a whole lot more.

my experiance with the auto train was more like yours with the plane. whatever could go wrong did. i think i’ll pass but great story well told.

Jim great story, My wife and I love traveling by train every chance we get. The auto train during the Christmas season is very special , the children really enjoyed it.

Jim - I just watched a half dozen of your histry according to episodes. I was moved by the trip you had on the Wabash as a teenager and the response you got from the president of the railroad to your request for a cab ride. I too had a similar experiance with the Upper Hudson River Railroad ( now the Saratoga and North Creek Railway )The then general manager Cliff Welz knew my uncle from the D&H Railroad and allowed me to ride the cab of 5019, a GP38-2.The upshot was a near 2 hour video of the whole trip from the cab. If I had been a teenager I would have been over the moon. As I was 56 at the time I am still in orbit. What a thrill. I enjoy all of your History lessons as it brings me to a time that I wish I could have lived through.
