Can anyone tell me what type of loco Casey Jones was killed in ?.

“Thanks”

I’m going to guess the 10 wheeler, 4-6-0, since one was named after him.

Illinois Central 4-6-0 #382,

Yep! IC # 382 was a 4-6-0 A photo of the loco they named after Casey can be found here: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ic/ic-s382av.jpg

If you do a search on Casey Jones, you will find a wealth of info about what happened that night.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the info. I wouldn’t mind having a 4-6-0. Are they available in N scale ?.

Unfortunately, no. Bachmann announced that they were going to issue one in their Spectrum line. But they later said that they were having a problem finding a motor small enough to fit in the boiler (they don’t want to go with tender mounted motor like MDC/Roundhouse) and that the project was on indefinite hold while they worked the problem.

No word on when, if ever, they might make the loco, but they continue to say that the project is just postponed, not canceled.

I’m anxiously waiting for it too.

Except that’s NOT Casey Jones’ engine. That’s a T&P ten wheeler painted for the IC, to attract the unwary. 382 was built in 1898, renumbered three times, and scrapped as 5012 in 1935. So far as most of us IC steam nuts have been able to determine, no photos of 382, 212, 2012 or 5012 were ever taken, except at the wreck scene. My photo of sister engine 5013 can be found at:

Didn’t the song have #382 called #99 or #999? Or is old age just playing tricks with my memory? … AGAIN!

Right! I didn’t say it was the loco that Casey was driving that night, I said it was the one IC NAMED the Casey Jones. [;)]

i’d like a 4-6-0. They look really nice.
