History of the NYC RR

I thought I had a pretty good library of railroad books until I discovered that when it comes to the great New York Central Railroad I have no good general history. I have several very fine books on New York Central topics, such as motive power, stations, etc., but no really comprehensive history of the railroad.

I think most of us are familiar with Rehor’s unsurpassed The Nickel Plate Story. My question today is this: Is there a similar book for the New York Central? Or, is this a book waiting to be written?

Creative Age Press put out The Road of the Century, by Alvin Harlow, in 1947. I have not seen the book, but I’d guess it would cover the NYC’s first 100 years pretty well.
