HO Bachmann Cylindrical Hopper

I’m looking for information on the prototype for this car, who built them, who owned/owns them etc.

That’s a Canadian-style cylindrical covered hopper. They’ve been around since the 60’s and are mainly used for carrying grain and potash. CP, CN, and some Canadian government and private companies own the majority of these types of hoppers. They were built by National Steel Car Co., Marine Industries, and Hawker Siddeley (cool fact: H.S. is the same company that made the Harrier and Hawk military jets). Intermountain makes a very detailed HO scale RTR version of this car. There was also a US-style cylindrical hopper made by ACF in the 60’s, a few of which are still around. Atlas makes those in HO.

Don’t forget the HS-125 Hawker which spawned later versions known as the Hawker 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000. Raytheon now owns the Type Certificate to this airplane.

Red, if I’d known that you were going to cross-post both here and in the General Talk section, I would have answered likewise. Instead, here’s a LINK to that reply. [swg]

I wasn’t sure where I would be more likely to get a response LOL! I have managed to find pictures though of a CN car that appears to be a match for the Bachmann model. These cars seem to be a differant design than the normal Canadian grain cars. The ends of the cars have a differant shape. I wonder if they are used for grain or for other commodities. I bought my Bachmann cars for potash service on my future layout.

Nope, not a match. Close, but not a match. There are some spotting features that are not inline.
