HO Code 83 Uncouplers question

I am looking for a decent kadee uncoupler for code 83. I have been using Kadee 321 uncoupler which you lay ontop of the track but its to high for code 83. I cut the ties out from the middle then glue it down and thenit works. What I am after is a code 83 Uncoupler. I dont mind cutting track I just want to make it simpler if possible. Most of my track is already layed so it would be hard to rip the whole entire track up to use under track uncouplers. Thanks for any advice.

Actually, unless I’m mistaken, you’re going to have to cut the ties regardless of what uncoupler you use from Kadee.

Hi,

I posted this same question a couple of weeks ago. I think if you do a search, you will find it. Just in case you can’t find it, I’ll tell you what I learned from all the input and what I’m planning to do.

First of all, I’m planning to cut the ties out of my code 83 track and glue the magnets in place. What I didn’t know is that Kadee makes a gluing “jig” that costs only a couple of dollars (Kadee item 334). You put glue in the space between your ties and then lay the magnet in the jig and place the jig on the track. The jig holds the magnet at just the right height relative to the track, while the glue is drying. In other words, if you just glue the magnet between the rails after cutting out the ties, it will be a little too low to really operate properly.

Hope this helps.

Mondo,

thanks for that tip I didnt know they had a jig for that find something new every day. I thought I saw a topic on a forum I thought it was on a yahoo list but guess it was on here. I did glue my first uncoupler with lots of glue which kept it right but now that theres a tool that will help me out a lot.
