Here is a 360 degree view of my new shelf layout running around a 2.95x3.4 metre (9’8" x 11’2") room.
Two decks connnected by a train elevator/lift, bridge-section across doorway. Shares the room with a whole wall of bookshelves, windows on two walls… a challenging space! The whited-out area is the glare from the only remaining window
Very Nice, this is the same type of layout that I decided to go with. 12" wide around 3 wall and into the closet (okay around everything but the door) but it is just a single deck and it is also N scale. Figured that I could fit more tracks in less space this way. I thought that this would be the best way for me to go, cause it is all made to be able to come down. And I agree with being about to still use the room, I’m able you use mine as an office with no floor space loss at all.
I have quite the similar challenges with loads of back issues of MR, RMC, Trains, Railroad and lots of other similar mags and some RR paraphenalia like a real streetcar or trollybus rollsign that works plus all my stashed computers and MR equipment. A layout is growing amidst the chaos and in the end I hope its spectacular.
Luckily our basement includes a 30,000 litre water tank that I added a trapdoor and ladder to make a storage room - my model railroader and RMC collection is down there now, along with my memorabilia
