does anyone have experience with the walthers HOscale f40ph? if you do, do they run well? they seem to be detailed enough to look respectable next to any atlas loco.

Walthers dealer. So take this for what you think it is worth:
I’ve sold quite a few of the TrainLine locomotives from Walthers and they seem to be a good value. They run quietly, pretty smooth at slow speeds for the cost, decent detailing and the paint job always seem to be just fine. Do they run as smooth and quiet as the Kato? No, but look at the MSRP of a Kato. Do they have the flashing strobe lights like the newer Spectrum units? No. But still, for the price I think these are a pretty good deal.
Nothing wrong with the new Spectrums or the Kato, either. Hope that helps a little.
The Trainlines are good runners, have good paint, but as GoS said they’re certainly not as full of “bells and whistles” as the Katos and Spectrums do; but the price is much lower.
see about yoshi
he’s using one on a train modeled after the downeaster
ok i found one on ebay for about $40. is this a good price? i guess trainline is better than athearn but less than atlas.
Thanks

$40 is $15 off retail, which is a pretty good price. I haven’t seen any discount train dealers sell them for that little.[:D]
Trainline being better than Athearn depends on which one you get. Their F40 and DASH 8 are better than the average Athearn BB, but the GP9M and FA aren’t quite as good.
