I need some floodlights to illuminate a coal mine loading area for night operations. The Brawa section in the Walthers catalog has some that would be suitable, but the prices are steep. Are there other sources for floodlights, street lights, etc.?
Waterline,
If you are willing to make your own, you can save quite a bit. For exterior lighting, I have a tutorial on my web site that may be helpful for you. Here’s the link:
Sorry, I don’t have one for flood lights…yet. Hope that’s a help.

Tom (tstage) wrote a tutorial for making light poles… you could probably start here and then modify the poles to suit your needs.
and for Tom - stop with the beating me to a post! LOL!
NJ International has some, if you’re looking for tall ones on towers:
I went the Minatronics route. They are a little pricey. Here’s some night shots of my coal mining operation:
Dan,
You may be younger than me…but I’m still quicker. [(-D] (At least this time around…)

Great Photos, Jeff!
Thanks very much. I’ll give it a go!
I’ve got some of the Brawa floods that fit their “Pin Socket System” (numbers 186-5860 and 186-5861).
Yes, they are pricey, but the ability to just lift them out of their sockets while working on the layout is well worth it, to me anyway. Without it, I’d have replaced 2 or 3 of the “cheaper” ones by now!
As a measure for cutting costs, By taking Life-Like “Scene Master Spotlights” and extending the vertical poles, to the right height with brass or Styrene tube, It is my opinn that they will make very effective and inexpensive flood lights.
