Looking for detail parts for an HO Atlas NS Genset…any ideas? I’d kinda like to put a strobe light on it as well. Any idea where to mount it?
There are several Genset videos on You-tube, so look at them and see if any of the real ones have strobes and where they are located.
Detail parts? Not sure what else the Atlas model needs. I have one and it seems to have all the details except perhaps something specific to a particular road.
Here’s the link to a You-tube video of a pair of CSX Gensets, and they do not appear to have strobes. None of the other roads have them, either, as near as I can tell from the various videos.
NS has strobes on their gensets 300 and 301 (engines are set up for remote control operation).
Looks like the strobes are mounted on a metal plate attached to the cab. See: http://www.nsdash9.com/rosters/300.html .
Many of NS remote engines have their RCO strobes mounted to brackets or metal plates, as opposed to flush mounted to the cab roofs. But not all…
Can’t help you with the Strobe but one thing that has always bothered me is the too big for scale hand rails. Atlas has seen the error of their ways and will soon offer replacement handrails. If you haven’t heard check out the link.

Thank you all! I appreciate the help!
I’m just getting back into the hobby after a about 15 years (or more). Does anyone make a beacon strobe (like the Star brand) that looks like a strobe? Many seem to be too rounded and way too large. Or at least they used to be…
Don’t have a clue as to what a “Star Brand” is, but if you are looking for diesel detail parts suggest you google Details West and/or Detail Associates and check out their offerings. If one of these two companies doesn’t have what you are looking for, you probably don’t need it.

Star is the manufacturer (or maybe they just re-brand) of lanterns and also strobe beacons a bunch of the railroads use.
I’ve decided to make my strobes out of SMD LEDs and a small plate of styrene with a round piece of tubing with a clear tubing inside. Led mounted inside the round tubing to illuminate the clear tubing. Styrene plate and round tubing painted black to match engine.
Thanks again guys! You were great help!
