Dose anyone know how old AHM (Associated Hobby Manufacturers Inc.)minikits are? I’ve come across a number 5806 Coal Mine. Thanks
AHM was succeeded in business by IHC. According to IHC’s web site they were founded in 1981. However I found a web link that mentions AHM filing chapter 11 in 1982.
As for the coal mine kit, it has been around for a while and sold I beleive under more than one brand name. I got one and in the end hacked it apart and used sections of it to make other structures.
The storage shed at the back of this shot was made from part of the kit.
I have bunches of them. Great for parts. If you build one and take the time they come out OK for background buildings. They where good in their day.
Think of the AHM, REVEL and that era as a lot of kitbashing parts. or a one of a kind type custom built kit.
Yes I still buy them and modify them to fit areas.
I believe that is the old Jack Work coal mine that was described in MR back in the 50’s. The kits are probably from the late 60’s, 70’s.
As for AHM/IHC, I believe both owned by Berney Paul. I remember some problem under the AHM name; prices kept dropping until you could buy a Cab Forward for $19.95. I think at that time, he changed the name to IHC and got prices back up. Not sure of the details.
