How does the latest release of the Intermountain SD40-2 engines compare to other manufacturers, specifically the non-sound version? Are they comparable to Athearn Genesis or Athearn Ready-to-Roll? Are they comparable to Kato or Atlas? I currently do not have any Intermountain engines and was wondering what to expect if I purchase one.

I haven’t seen any actual hands on reviews after someone bought the model and gave it a shake down examination and run yet. I think this is what many are waiting for before taking the plunge - thats the impression I am getting from reading all the other topics on this here and other forums.
Thank you Riogrande5761. Yes, I’ve been there before, more than once, on being disappointed with an engine.
Well due to reading feed back on certain engines, such as Intermountain AC steamers, BLI SD40-2’s and others, I would avoid buying certain types due to the negative feedback. The IMR SD40-2’s need to prove themselves.
