Hi all. Trying to figure out if an Atlas TT is sufficant to turn a BLI Hvy Mike and a Lt Santa Fe The TT deck is 9". Does anyone know the length of the Hvy Mike? I already suspect that the Santa Fe is too long.
According to BLI’s website, the heavy Mike is 11-1/4" long coupler to coupler. You will lose a little coming in each end to the first and last axle, but not 2".
Front axle to rear axle on the heavy and light mike is 10.25" give or take a smidge, making it fit on a 9" table is problematic.
Whelp, so much for the cheap route.
All is not lost. You could sink your Atlas TT into the ground and build a longer bridge on top of it. That way you keep the indexing (nice) and the Geneva motion (stop every 15 degrees - not so nice.)
Or you can bite the bullet and scratch build a proper NYC 100 foot TT, which will allow you to run those locos with longer 6-axle tenders - a modification made by most of the lines that ran the prototypes. (The PRR Lines West and ATSF 8-axle tenders are gross overkill…)
