This poll is for informative purposes. As some of you already know, I actually e-mail topics like this to manufacturers as they can use the input. [;)]
Based on the high amount of responses on the two MTH litigation related topics that point towards DCC and DCS I felt that it would be interesting to see what groups those of you that responded represent. Even for those that didn’t respond to the two topics, please jump right in anyway!
I am a very contented HO DCC user. I am still amazed at the realism you can have in the operations. No way would I change or mix. I just hope that DCC’s development continues.
I don’t exactly fall into any of the categories. I model O gauge, and do not(and will not) used DCS. I use, rather, TMCC, which, in a sense, is like DCC to HO in that most companies include it in at least some of their engines, and it’s pretty easy to install in anything else.
Currently use Digitrax Zephyr and very happy with it. Concerned about the possible arrested development of DCC because of MTH’s posible threatening position.
I expect to use DCC in S scale, but it is not high on my list. This part of the hobby seems to still be sorting itself out and I can wait since I have other things I want to spend my hobby dollars on.
Enjoy

While I’ve never experienced DCC, I would like to get it one day, but as I’ve stated in another post, I can’t afford it right now.
40+ locomotives = one large DCC start up cost.
Hey Antonio, you missed the guys like Me and Ben. TMCC is the other big system in 3 rail O. We run on AC.
My thing is that I plan to use a computer to run some of the trains. DCS does not allow for the kind of operation I want. TMCC does. I can have the computer do calculations based on where all the trains are, and control signals, speed, turnouts and sound if I want it. Just like a real railroad. No toy nonsense. I’m a weirdo even for a 3 railer, and proud of it.
Why not install DCC decoders in a few batches of locomotives at a time instead of all 40? This is how I’ll be doing it. Decoder costs can be found in the “teens” now. Seen some good deals especially at train shows like GATS. You can install a “regular” decoder from Digitrax or TCS and if you still want sound, come back later with a Soundtraxx DSX when your budget allows.
Also, If I’m not mistaken the most popular DCC brands allow DC and DCC locomotives to be run on the same layout.
I posted my vote as a HO modeler, using System 1 / NCE DCC since 1997.
I didn’t have any way to vote twice, but I also dabble in hi-rail, primarily using TMCC, and DCS when we can successfully deploy it on our modular set-ups. The two systems can work together. Of my 3 rail roster, four of my locomotives are TMCC, two are DCS.
A very happy DCC user. Own Digitrax Empire Builder, have PR-1 & decoder pro for programming, plus ability to connect a layout to a computer.
As I said in the “main” MTH litigation thread, if DCS will come only in MTH engines and is not available as a user installed module. A definite No. And then in the poll “Interested in MTH”; if MTH makes something that hasn’t been made before, isn’t a dup of what’s already available and is optioned like some of the other manufacturer products. I’ll look at it.
So the result is, simply given the number of locos I already own, and given that there are no plans, at present, for a DCS module to be user installed, there are two chances of me EVER having a loco from MTH: Slim & none, and Slim just left.
