HO narrow gauge starter set

I want to build an HO scale Christmas village and I don’t have a lot of space for it so I’m thinking a narrow gauge will work best. What is a good train for a beginner to buy for an HO narrow gauge layout?

Welcome to the forum!

Narrow gauge on HO scale features really cool steam equipment. However, it is highly expensive and won’t really save you a lot of space. Locos run on 18" radius curves, and there are plenty of HO scale locos that run on 18" curves, including 4 axle diesels and 4 driver steamers. Some run on 15" curves. Manufacturers usually indicate the min. radius recommended.

Are you near a good hobby shop? They may assemble you a small set at low cost with new or used equipment.

Thanks for the advice. I don’t have a hobby shop very close.

I’m also interested in narrow gauge because I’m planning a Rocky Mountain scene and will be going for the look of a tourist train.

For your consideration:

It’s a honey of an engine that will outperform most HOn3 engines out there. I model HO and HOn3.
