I started with a 4 x8 layout ,34" legs. Then i added 1/4 x 12" high plexiglass
around the perimeter of the board. I cut a 4’ x 8’ pc. of plexiglass in half,so that
they act as a cover for the area.My three power packs are located in it. Then i added another 4 x 8’ board,this does not have a plastic cover. What it does have is a post at both ends, and a wire that connects the two. When it is going to rain
i drop a 10’x20’ vinyl cover (side curtain of a car port) and bunji chord it down.
This has been very succesfull,i have never witnessed any moisture after a rain.
You always hear about UV rays affecting track, i have four loops. One loop is bachmann,another is life-like, then atlas(true track) and finally flexible track.
There has never been any affect on any of these tracks. So now i have a 4 x 16’
layout,that is weather resistant. Lately i added a 12" wide board that is 18’ long,
double track that connects to my original layout,who knows what is coming next.

I have a question about the weather. What area of the country do you live? Do you have any insect problems or neighbors cats or any other small animals messing up your layout?? Post some pictures if you can as this is very interesting.

[?] I remember, many years ago, some model railroad magazine (probably pre-MRR) had a plan for mounting some track on a shelf system that was attached to the fence that ran the perimeter of the owners yard. It had a tilt up roof on it for access to the trains but protected the system from the elements and the front was either clear plastic or glass or wire screen (as in screen door material). It had a connection to the house so the trains could be driven inside for storage, and a door was on the entrance to keep the critters out.
This was in the period of the late 40’s to 50’s when tinker-itus ran rampant and everybody had a gizmo that was supposed to make all the world’s tasks easier. Does anyone else remember such a thing?
It was during the same period that someone thought up a system where the mail was stuffed in a model train car which then ran from the street to the house so the owner didn’t have to leave home to get the mail. Does that idea stir any recollections?
