HO scale Athearn ICC Caboose

I got an HO scale Athearn Genesis DCC ICC Caboose about a year ago. The interior lighting and the red flashers do not work effectively and only occasionally flicker and have had any sound. The model ID for this caboose is ATHG 78503 (CB&Q). To my understanding, this has been a common problem with these type of cabooses from Athearn. I know that there is a way to alleviate this problem, but can’t find out how. Any ideas?

My first instinct says reprogram the decoder. then check for contact issues. Best I got from what you described.

I’d also surmise that you have contact issues, either wheels to track or pickup from the wheels.

Yes, I would start by cleaning the wheels and the track. If that doesn’t work, I would reset the decoder.
