HO SCALE HIGHWAY TRACTORS.

I AM MOSTLY AN INTERMODAL MODELOR AND AM HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING JUST HIGHWAY TRACTORS. I AM SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR SOME PETE 379’S AND KENWOTH T2000. DOES ANYBODY HAVE AN IDEA WHERE I CAN FIND TRACTORS ONLY OF THESES MODELS. LOOKING FOR A GOOD MODEL NOT JUST A TOY. ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I don’t know of a good KW T2000 in HO and the best Pete 379 runs around $280.00 from Classic Mint Collectibles.

Try Promotex Online. They have a variety of plastic highway tractors and the prices aren’t bad.

The Pete and KW conventionals are iffy, but a lot of people use them.

Trucks N Stuff has some pretty nice diecast trucks coming, including a Pete 389. You can pre-order them at Walthers.

The TNS trucks are made by Ton, a division of Tonkin. The earlier trucks need some work (mirrors, etc.) but the newer models look much better.

Wal-mart.

Wal-mart Has pickup a line of Model Collection Scale Cars and Trucks/Highway tractors,

1.87 scale and 1.64 Put out by Malibu international LTD I did see a KW tractor in 1.87 scale I did not pick it up, but I think I will go back. They are very nice models set in there own case. very nicely done.

Hope this helps…

Mondo…

In a somewhat related question - does anybody know where I can find pictures of 1940s-'50s era piggyback loading ramps? I’m adding a piggyback facility and so far I’ve only been able to find current pics.

This is sorta related, does anybody have a idea on how to model a scene from “Smokey And the Bandit”? and i mean the origional

Well, if you don’t mind doing a bit of work and paint etc, there is Jacobs Models , Rick’s Decals and Dennis Aust

And these and many others can be found at Truck Stop Models

Oh, and for a T2000, there is this but I am not sure how close to 1/87 it is.

While I can’t find any pics online of 1940’s-50’s TOFC ramps, on the NH they were generally set up to handle two tracks.

Imagine a double track spur that deadends at a single large concrete ramp. On either side of the double track, there’s a wooden platform with a railing that runs alongside up the track almost to the clearance point (this allows workers to quickly tie down or untie trailers on multiple flats).

The ramp itself has a small bumper at the edges to help guide trailers onto the ramps, with another in the center in a “V” shape.

On either side of the ramps and wooden platforms, there was usually a wide stretch of pavement that allowed the trailers to be stored alongside the tracks.

BTW, the tractors used for this operation generally had hydraulic 5th wheels that allowed the driver to quickly pick up and move a trailer without messing around with the landing gear.

There was a bulk tanker with a pete model recently retailing for about 300 dollars.

Good enough for me, but too high for this old man for such a small toy. They really need to start cranking out Butlers and Heils in plastic for much less.

I actually have a buddy who owns the kenworth produced right after the one used in smokey and the bandit. Useless Information

To do Snowman’s truck, I’d try to find a good pic of the truck, and print decals for the trailer. Kind of like this:

Then you just need the Trans Am, and a few cop cars.

I don’t remember for sure, but I think the T-A is a model power? I’ll try to find the box to look and see.

PS: I just looked, and the T-A is a Busch model.
