HO scale Kress carrier /completed model photos

Hello all,

After many hours at my work bench , I’m finally done with this model. Your asking yourself…what is a kress carrier ? Well modern steel mills have to transport hot molten steel somehow, they either use hot metal freight cars or a Kress carrier ,sometimes they use both.

This project seemed to be a pain in the buttocks but it wasn’t ,in fact was very easy to build. Although I’m still working on painting objects…I suck painting anything.

Dragon river steels first Kress carrier is in service and fully ready to pour on the steel!!!

Hope you folks enjoy the photos…

Very nice work, but you’ll have to brush up on your painting skills. One trip and that monster will need to be weathered, and after a few loads, you won’t be able to tell what colour it’s supposed to be. Seriously, though, you’ve created a very nice model of a unique piece of equipment. Excellent job.

Wayne

Very nice! was this a special kit or a kit bash

Thanks Wayne for the kind words. I’m slowly working on my painting skills ,only time will tell…lol.

Hello Bill,

Carrier was built by kit-bashing a HO scale Norscot scraper and parts laying around. Thank you also for the kind words…

.

Wow I thought it was a kit! Very nice work for a kit-bash[bow]
your modeling skills are top notch!!!

Hey Bill ,

Thanks again…but my paint skills are ,well crappy. Haven’t quite got that part down as of yet.

Patrick

Now if you get hi-rail wheels on that…

Either way that’s a very creative model! Keep ‘em comin’!

Hey Drumming,

I’ll have to work on the Hi-rail version…lol .But it is based on real machine found working in steel mills around the world. My next model from the Kress family ,will be a kress straddle slab carrier. A six wheel behemoth ,with elevated cab. I’ll have to find a pic and post it of straddle carrier.

Patrick

Very nice work, especially on a kitbash! I wish one of my kitbashing projects would come out like that! Again, very nice work. [^]

Heres a photo of my next kit-bashing monster. A Kress straddle slab carrier, this is gonna be a tough one to complete.

Awesome vehicle! For your new project you might look at some military kits, or ones for European industrial equipment. Kibri has some very unusual looking industrial vehicle kits.

Yeah thats what I’ll have to do on this next model , way to many custom parts. Thanks for the idea using kibri kits ,although this machine has some very weird parts.

I’ll give kibri kits a try and see what happens.

Patrick

WARNING!!! The Kibri kits are pretty expensive. You might want to be sitting down when you look at the prices! [:p]

I own many kibri kits and am aware of there cost . If you khow ,where to shop for them ,the prices aren’t that steep …hehehehehee.

I’m thinking of building two machines at the same time ,one being the kress straddle carrier and the other a kress elevated pattet carrier.
This might be more than I can chew…nah.

Ok…where are the “not so steeply priced” Kibri kits??? I must know! I’ll beg if I have to! [:p]
