Does anyone know where I can find some PUs around the early to mid '70s I am trying to model about 1976 but the exact year is not that important. I do need some PU trucks, all I have been able to find are in the '50s and jump up to the '90s A rural scene just dousn’t look right without PUs. Looks like some one would make some 1970 Ford and Chevy PUs. Around here the 1968 - 1972 Ford F100 was a very popular style. Any good advice? Thanks Mike
Life-Like had some Ford pickups awhile back. They seem to be late 1970s or early 1980s models. They aren’t the best detailed, but a little paint and weathering works wonders. You’ll need to repaint them, since they’re usually molded semi-opaque plastic. IIRC, there’s a large casting sprue in the bed, which is a pain to remove. However, some of the trucks have bed covers. For those that don’t, fill the bed with junk.
Busch(?), I believe dows the dodge power wagon, trident(?), I think did a chevy, not sure of year, and Walthers did a '67 F-100 p/up, but as usual, they stopped making it???
The Life-Like trucks were the '78-'79 F100, 150, 250 and 350 models. The body style was used all the way back to '73 with only grill and headlight changes.

Thanks for the input, I looked on line at the Trident trucks and they do have a number of PUs that will work but a little Pricy for what they look like on the pic. Do you know if they can be taken apart and painted? I have several Bolens that you can remove a couple of screws from the bottom and the truck (no PUs) will come completly apart making them easy to repaint. Do any of you have any Trident models that you could share some info on them with me? Mike
Thanks jeffrey that is kinda what ai am looking for although the first one isn’t much might be alright on the back of the layout. Looks like an International or something. Mike
That’s all I could find on walthers.com in the range you specified. Everything else was 1950 and before or 1990 and later.
That is what I am running into. I checked a place on line called Hobby Link and Trident had several although they were mostly military. I may have to go that route, maybe order a couple and see what they are like befor I order very many. I do appriciate your time and the help jeffrey. Mike
You can take the Trident vehicles apart, I’ve done it for both the Pickup and Van:, it’s not too hard, just be careful not to snap anything (of course) and make notes which piece fits where (it’s nowhere near as fiddly as some of the Busch or Herpa vehicle models) . When done with the body (stepside), I assembled and brush painted the rear lights Model Master ‘Stop Light Metallic’, and give the front headlights a coat or two of clear coat.
Complete rehash of rather uninteresting story: - it was Roco - 1977 Dodge Pickup, which I presume they made because the real US army used more or less stock Dodges P/U frames as their base 1 1/4 ton truck during that era (Roco was heavily into military models, and I kick myself for not stocking up on some of their later military equipment (like Hummers, M1A1s, and M939 trucks) at rather reasonable prices…
Ahtearn is bringing out a 1955 F-100 pu truck soon.
What about the Mini-Metal Products line of HO and N scale vehicles. They used to have some Ford and Chevrolet pickup trucks, but I don’t recall the years that were covered.
The military Dodge truck was the 1975 - 1979 Dodge Power Wagon. Military nomenclature M880.
This truck should work:
I forget who makes it. Maybe someone else can help me on that one.
Thats a Trident. I have that one, a couple vans and a Suburban. They are great looking and can easily pass for a mid 70’s pickup.
Thanks, I was on line yesterday looking for some and ran across some Trident that I think I can use, I will order a few and see how they are. Mike
