HO Scale Track Types

I recently got back into the hobby and want to start a new layout. Since my original set is long since gone, I have started from scratch. I picked up one of the Bachmann sets with the E-Z Track system. I love the track, but I’m not sure it would be good for a real model layout.

So does anyone have any experience with using E-Z track in their layouts, or what would be some other recommended track? I would like to stay with Nickel Silver to avoid any corosion.

Hi Mike,
Yes, Nickel Silver is the best. I have used for over 40+ years PECO track & Points(Turnouts), HO in code 100 or finescale code 75.

At least half of the track on my layout is ez track I think it is fine especially the swithces since they don’t have any exposed mechanisms. If your concerned about realism - just ballast the track - it makes an amazing visual difference.

for my two cents, Atlas code 83 flex with walthers(shinohara) code 83 turnouts. Turnouts need a .02 plastic shim to come up to same height as Atlas track. Used them and am pleased with results. Good compromise between quality, operation, cost and appearance. I hear Peco is the best for operation, no code 83 though.

Mark,

I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing. Since posting the comment originally, I have been looking towards the Atlas flex code 83 flex track.

I’ve heard good things about the Walthers track, but what is the primary difference between the Atlas turnouts and Walthers?

Mike
