I saw in the Walthers catalog the NuComp Miniature trailer park (item number #87101 ) and I was wonder if anyone has it on their layout and can tell me is it a good kit or not and about how long the trailers are. I have a some real estate near my train yard that would be great place for a trailer park.
I have several of the NuComp trailer homes. They’re very nice. They’re about 3-4" long, depending on style. Not difficult to build, but they are undecorated kits so you do need to paint them.
Several years back I had a space for a “hired hands” house but nothing to put there. What better than a trailer. However, at that time there were no trailer kits available, so I scratch built one, complete with tongue, window A/C, deck and awnings, skirting… Turned out pretty nice. It was just a couple months after that, that I saw an ad in MR for trailers. I still scratch build mine.
I have one of their trailers on our HO layout (H1003). One of these comes in the 87101 set you’re looking into. I’m thinking about replacing this trailer since they now offer 1950s style trailers and our layout is set in the late 1950s.
Not a great pic, but you can see in the background one “shiner” in the trailer park on my old layout. The GN boxcars are 50’ long - 10’ high Athearn cars so you can get a little perspective (though this is one of the older / smaller trailer homes as I recall.)
Hah hah, when I saw this pic on the internet a few years ago, I saved it quickly & then ordered a bunch of different trailers & whatnot. Eventually I will make a scene in my version of this:
