I’m about to begin designing another layout. I was at the LHS today looking for an HO template and only found CTT no. 5000 for about $13.00. WOW! That’s rather expensive for a simple template.
A couple of questions:
-
Do you know of any other templates that are available?
-
If CTT no. 5000 is the only game in town, is this the right price?
Thanks!
The CTT template is the only one I’m aware of. It is a good one. I checked the Walther’s catalog, and they list it for $12.99.
Hope This Helps,
Tom Watkins
Are you talking about curve templates? I make my own out of door skin. It is a veneer of about 1/8" thickness. You can probably get it at Home Depot or equivalent builder’s supply store. I do a 6" tangent then layout my easement and offset marks and about a foot of the curve radius. Using a batten I draw on the easement then cut it slightly away from one side of the line. Then I sand it with long strokes down to the line.
These give me the centerline for laying down the cork roadbed with a fine sharpie pen. Then I can measure out from either or both sides to cut out for sub-roadbed. If working on plywood or foam, I lay my turnouts and other track work on the surface to get final arrangements to suit. I can use another color marking pen to try different arrangements before fastening anything down.
Thanks, Tom. After I read your post, I went to Walther’s and found the same. Guess I should expect to pay about that much.
John, excellent suggestions. I’ll use them in my next step. Thanks!
