Wet part of a paper towel with alcohol. Put it across the tracks. Hold the loco with one truck on the rails, one on the paper towel, give it some juice. Then switch trucks.
MICRO TRAINS SELLS A WHEEL CLEANER THAT CLIPS ONTO YOUR TRACKS,ALSO MINITRIX MAKES ONE THAT SITS RIGHT ON THE TRACKS IT SELLS FOR ABOUT TWENTY DOLLARS.THE MINITRIX IS THE EASIEST TO USE. YOU CAN CLEAN YOUR LOCO ONE TRUCK AT A TIME OR BUY TWO AND DO THE WHOLE ENGINE ALL AT ONCE. GOOD LUCK,JOHN
Use the alcohol on the paper towel method… It’s cheap, and more effective than the wire brush cleaners, which serve mostly to scratch up the wheel treads and make a lovely home for more crap to build up.
Goo Gone also works, but you have to make sure you clean it off completely, or it will form an insulating film on the wheels.

just run the dirt right off them wheels
ho no…
Hi there,
Rubbing alcohol does work best with paper towel but White spirit works well too… whatever you do, do not use Turpentine or Methylated Spirit!
Good Luck
Trevor
NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRE BRUSH CLEANERS,YOU DON’T NEED TO PUT ALOT OF PRESSURE ON THE LOCOS TO GET THEM CLEAN. I HAVE USED THESE BRUSHES FOR MORE THAN THIRTY FIVE YEARS AND NEVER HAD A SCRATCHED UP WHEEL SET,JUST DO WHATEVER WORKS BEST FOR YOU,CHEAPER ISN’T ALWAYS THE BEST.
