ho wheelsets larger than 36"

Anyone know a source of wheelsets larger than 36" suitable for passenger cars? . i.e. 38" or 40"…

Phillups:

Try Northwest Short Line. I know they make wheelsets in both 38" and 40" and possibly larger. Very good quality, with one wheel insulated for installing interior lighting pickups.

Mosel diesel wheelsets are 40".

The question I have is what passenger cars are you modeling that have 38-40" wheelsets? Passenger cars typically have 36’ wheelsets.

Jay-Bee make 38 and 40 inch wheelsets

Intermountain makes 38" ones.

I feel the same. Changing to a larger wheelset can create additional problems with frame/ undercarriage clearance and affect the overall “riding height”, coupler etc.

Phillups,

AFAIK some prototype self propelled MU Railcars, such as the Budd Metroliners, had 40" wheels on their traction motor equipped trucks.

Are you modeling MU equipment or standard streamlined or heavyweight passenger cars?
