Does anyone know where to obtain suitable window frames for HO continental passenger cars, or a good work-around? I’m doing a repaint of a Skytop lounge & noticed the difference between the Skytop (none), and my new livery, (CN '54) with aluminum frames…it’s always the little things…
I’m unsure of exactly for what you’re looking, Paul. The paint scheme introduced on the Pullman-Standard and Canadian Car & Foundry orders in 1954 was the black/green/gold one, but it was superseded by the black and grey scheme in 1961. While not all cars were immediately painted in the black and grey scheme, the “Skyview” cars weren’t acquired until 1964, and most certainly would have received the newer paint scheme.
While the P-S and CCF cars had aluminum window frames, the photo which I have of Skyview 1904 (Baddeck) appears to have black rubber seals around the windows - the car itself is in the black and grey scheme.
Let’s try this again. First, this is a fantasy repaint, not prototype. The Skytop was introduced in 1947, and so, could have graced other lines from that time. I’ve already done one in the ‘wet noodle’ livery:
I prefer doing the roof like this, maintaining the line, rather than the big grey balloon that CN applied all around the dome windows - this looks much cooler. Or would, if my painting skills were better.
The cars in my other consist are all Rapido, green & black stripe. And all the windows have metal frames. So, just for the ‘regular’ part of the car, not the dome, I’d like it to match the rest of the consist, after the repaint.
Since I started this thread, it has occurred to me that I could scan the car sides, and increase the output by a fractional degree. I could then use this as a template to paint a thin bead around each window. I could also use the technique for my Hogwarts Express; while the prototype has window frames, the Bachmann product does not.
I was just asking the Forum if anyone had knowledge of a pre-made product that might be compatible for this ‘kitbash’.
I’ve ordered one of the sets. It will still challenge my modelling skills as the decals are rectangular but the Skytop windows are square…and I may have to yet use my template for the round windows…I’ll keep y’all posted…
