Yup! Having fun is the whole point of having a hobby for me.
Have fun,
Richard
Thanks Richard , That is what I am saying. I have a friend that has parkinsons and just collects and sells stuff and that is the fun of the hobby for him. There are many many aspects.
Mike
Sorry. I disagree. You can’t have fun in N scale. [;)] I have lightened up on myself a bit regarding what’s prototypical. Helps the enjoyment factor. I still hold myself to a standard that pleases my eye though without straining my own sense of realism. That too is part of the fun[:)] Dan
Gidday, I’m afraid I’m not a kind as you Mike, however I was bought up with “if you haven’t got anything nice to say then say nothing”, and unfortunately I can be somewhat short with “experts” who wish to force their opinions, often ill informed, on me. That said I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing others pleasure with what they’ve achieved, no matter what level of modelling they’re at.
Cheers, the Bear.[:)]
LOL
Dan that is key. What works for you is what to do .

Bear this is also a virtue, being able to weed out the dandylions without killing the grass.
Mike
Absolutely Dan…
Here’s my personal thought.
A modeler sets their modeling standards.
Then are those that has no standards and anything goes like 4-4-0s by SD90MACs or running GG1s without overhead.
Yet,all modelers have obtain their hobby goal…
A simple goal that.
They’re all enjoying the hobby in their own way…
Well having fun has always been my motto. I also agree there lots of ways to do it. Personally, I have 3 layouts. A Thomas the Tank layout in my family room that my 2 year old grandson just loves. “The big one” layout that I am building in S scale (first stage 12x31ft) and a 6x12 test layout that currently has a loop of 3 rail O gauge track. I’m also a collector or sorts in that I buy things that intrest me, but won’t show up on the big layout. Some of them make an appearance on the test layout. Others are for a possible future use.
I also think that (barring handicaps, which I know some people have) a person can learn to do everything involved in building a layout. The biggest obstacle is just getting started. Sure the first one may not be all that you wanted but the second one is better.
BTW I always run my GG1 without catenary.
Enjoy
Paul
I hear you Paul , all of my automobiles have no drivers !!!
LOL

And all my boxcars, tank cars and covered hoppers are loaded with stale air.[sigh]
