Yes, someone will have to feed the chimps.
Alas, the devil is always in the details!

Worse yet, who is going to take care of the used food when the chimps are done with it? I don’t recall their being big on the subtleties of commodes and toilet paper.
I, for one, welcome a new generation of chimpanzees to model railroading. With the current generation of Boomer modelers rapidly aging, it’s good to bring a new species into the hobby.
Are these the ones that were playing next to the Monolith? Watch out for the one with the mammoth bone. (and cue the 2001, A Space Odessey theme music)
Yeah, the aliens made a big mistake. They gave us the mammoth bone, and we evolved into a warlike race. Imagine how far we be now if they’d given the chimps a Dremel and maybe a pair of Xuron rail nippers instead.
Super artistic?
Or if it was a chess board, we’d all be Vulcans now. Live long, and prosper!
A year or so, I was at Hobby Lobby when it was the only excuse for a hobbyt shop in 140 miles. They didn’t have much but a few sticks, some ground foam, etc.
While waiting at the understaffed checkout, I saw a book on sale about the founder of Hobby Lobby and his philosophy. As I recall, he didn’t care what people asked for at any particular store or region, he was going to sell what he felt like. Something like that.
" As I recall, he didn’t care what people asked for at any particular store or region, he was going to sell what he felt like. Something like that."
i am surprised he was dumb enough to put that in print. a lot of business owners confuse good fortune with personal merit and develop an “un-earned arrogance”. i tried not to forget that a lot of my success was because some good people gave me a break. of course, nobody gives a jerk a break. so one must wait a while before acting like a jerk. doing so early on is the kiss of death.
i got a laugh out of a local hobby shop owner. (now defunct) i asked him for a popular structure kit and he said’ “sorry, sold out. every time i get one of those in, it is gone in a couple of days” i asked if they sell that good why he didn’t order 2 or 3 at a time. he took exception to me telling him how to run his business. seemed like someone should. he also said if people want it bad enough they can wait a few days. i said if they want it badly enough, then they will go home, get on line and have one before you. do.

Though I hate to see any model railroad supply leave anywhere, mark me with those who say, not much of a loss for me. HL did only carry, in our store, a few trainsets, a smattering of WS stuff and a few DPM buildings, some odds and ends track, and the usual retail store stocking of 5 or 6 different cars but 5 or 6 of each. All at MSRP or higher. Yes higher. Reason for no great loss here is in town there are 2 HS. One a multi Hobby Shop that has I’ll say a nice selection of RR stuff and also RC and model cars and planes etc. The other is a WELL stocked MRR only shop that if you model HO you would be satisfied to set up a cot in the back and just stay there. N scale is also well represented as are the other scales. Both, of course, order from Walthers, and most important are 20%discount. Needless to say HL dropping the trains is no loss for us, even with the 40% coupon because well, you could only use it on one item and they didn’t have much one items there, and even if they did, you’d have to make more trips than it’s really worth to get a savings, because like I said some things are priced so that even with the 40% they were close to what you’d pay at the regular HS. Without the LHS’s, I believe I would be internet shopping and paying shipping to buy the lions share of trainstuff and saving money over HL. Besides if I had a question about something MRR related I would get the same reaction from a HL employee as I would my dog. I do feel for those who HL was their only source for some train shopping, but hopefully the internet will suffice.
Grizlump’s “ if people want it bad enough they can wait a few days” quote made me chuckle. In my small town we had lost all the restaurants over the years. We had a few years ago, a person from a neighboring town, set up a family type restaurant here with so so to not so great food. With varying portion sizes from plate to plate, none of which could be called good sized. The owner would complain of lack of business and say repeatedly “this
Wow, sounds like a class establishment. No wonder everyone who wanted to eat there had reservations.
I’ve seen places like that too. And it really does make you have to wonder about the mentality of some people. You come to a town that wants a restaurant, you look around and see that there’s not another one in sight for miles and you (a) don’t wonder why there aren’t more restaurants, but seeing as how you’re bound and determined and all, why (b) you wouldn’t put just a little bit of effort into creating a place for the “locals” to come and hang out-- some good down-home cooked dinners, some music on the jukebox, lots of cheap coffee and doughnuts-- and you’d have yourself a place. There is a ready expression that comes to mind that you can’t say in a family environment, all about messing up certain nocturnal endeavors.
Ah well… (shakes head) some things never cease to amaze me.

Just goes to show, you toss a feller a bone and danged if he don’t try to hit you over the head with it.
Or else maybe it just goes to show you something else. I’m not really sure. (shrug)
